The TC358746 configurable CSI-2 camera bridge IC from Toshiba Electronics Europe gives designers of digital camera systems the freedom to connect their preferred sensor to a host processor featuring either a CSI-2 or parallel interface, and so ensure optimum camera performance, size and cost.Without the TC358746, a host processor that provides either a MIPI CSI-2 or parallel camera input may constrain designers to choose from only a small number of camera sensors featuring compatible connectivity. The TC358746 can connect a CSI-2 sensor to a host processor with parallel interface, or can connect a sensor with parallel output to a host processor featuring a CSI-2 input interface.
Both the parallel and CSI-2 interfaces, whether configured as input or output, are able to support multiple video data formats including raw video in 8-bit up to 14-bit formats as well as RGB and YUV formats including CCIR and ITU YUV422 standards.
The CSI-2 interface meets the latest version 1.01 specification and supports up to four 1Gbps data lanes providing a total bandwidth of up to 4Gbps. The parallel interface operates with clock frequency up to 100MHz in output mode or 154MHz in input mode. Additional I2C and GPIO interfaces are provided to configure the bridge registers and for control signals.
Housed in a 1.0mm-high, 72-pin 4.5mm x 4.5mm BGA package, the TC358746 is optimised for use in space-constrained applications such as smartphones and other handheld devices. It accepts a 1.2V supply for core logic and the CSI-2 interface, and I/O supply voltage from 1.8V to 3.3V.
