Applikationsprocessorer integrerer wireless LAN og NAND hukommelse

Toshiba introducer en ny famile af applikationsprocessorer, som inkluderer IEEE802.11ac wireless LAN samt 32Gbit on-board hukommelse (in english).

Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has announced it will offer a new range of application processors that incorporate IEEE802.11ac baseband - the standard for high-speed wireless LAN - and NAND flash memory. The TZ5000 series is the latest addition to Toshiba’s ApP Lite family and will be ideal for applications ranging from (OTT: Over-The-Top1) tuners and IP media boxes to wearable devices, digital signage and thin clients.

Increasingly the delivery of video and audio over the internet requires set top boxes and similar equipment to receive the service and distribute contents to PCs and smartphones via a wireless LAN. The TZ5000 series application processors integrate the high-speed wireless LAN function required for high-quality video distribution plus embedded NAND flash memory to save user programs and store large amounts of data as cache. This reduces the number of external ICs and mounting area, contributing to downsizing of equipment.

The series also adopts an original low-power design, reducing power consumption and heat generation when processing multimedia applications, such as HTML5, which usually imposes a heavy load on the CPU.

The TZ5000MBG and TZ5001MBG are built around a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore with NEON media processing engine operating at up to 1.2GHz. An embedded IEEE802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2x2 MIMO baseband engine (Ensigma C4500) provides the broadband connection to wireless host devices.

32Gbit of embedded MLC NAND and a dedicated memory controller ensure fast software boots (e.g. for an operating system) and high-speed data access. Furthermore, because the program area is built into the package the processors are secure against falsification of data and hacking attacks. The TZ5001MBG offers additional security in the form of Secure Boot System Control.

Each processor features a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, a PowerVR VXD395 VPU, and a graphics engine that supports 1080 pixels at 60fps. This engine incorporates a multi-format decoder and IPC, scalar, rotator and composer functionality. High-speed I/O is provided via DDR3/3L/LP-DDR3, USB OTG, SDIO, HDMI®, MIPI®, CSI and DSI connectivity.

Sample shipments of the new processors will start in May with mass production scheduled for September 2014.
